#SrigleyStats Spotlight Driver - Texas - Bubba Wallace
Sure, Bubba Wallace is likely to be walking away from Sunday’s AutoTrader EchoPark Automotive 400 at Texas Motor Speedway disappointed that he didn’t claim the victory, after leading a race-high 111 laps, but that’s just a racer being a racer.
What should be looked at, though, is the career afternoon that Wallace had at Texas, leading more laps in Sunday’s race than he ever had in a single NASCAR Cup Series event to date.
Starting on pole, Wallace led a good amount of the race’s first stage, until a strategy call got the No. 23 worked back in traffic when the points were paid out. But, throughout the race, after struggling with the car a bit, the 23XI Racing driver was able to find himself back out front at the end.
Heck, Wallace even beat Kyle Larson in a head-to-head battle on a restart, which caused the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion to make a rare mistake and crash into the wall while battling for the lead of the race.
Even though Wallace dropped to third at the end of the race, losing spots to William Byron and Ross Chastain, the driver proved he has it in him to compete for victories, and has the speed to contend in the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs.
Winning Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series AutoTrader EchoPark Automotive 400 at Texas Motor Speedway, William Byron earned his 10th career NASCAR Cup Series win at the age of 25Y, 9M, and 26D, becoming the sixth-youngest 10-time winner in the history of the series.
Leading 166 of 250 laps in Sunday’s NASCAR Pinty’s Series finale at Delaware Speedway, Treyten Lapcevich led a season-total of 1,149 laps in 2023, the most of any driver in NASCAR Pinty’s Series history - beating out team owner Scott Steckly.
