#SrigleyStats Weekend Recap: Michigan
Taking a look back at this weekend's NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series action from Michigan International Speedway.
It was a long weekend at Michigan International Speedway.
Yes, because of Mother Nature. Yes, again. Although the NASCAR Xfinity Series was untouched by rain, the NASCAR Cup Series event wasn’t necessarily so lucky, having to run the final 125 laps of the 200-lap contest on Monday.
Monday Martin was defeated, though, with Chris Buescher scoring his second straight victory in the NASCAR Cup Series this year, holding off Martin Truex, Jr., who clearly looked to have the best car.

#SrigleyStats Spotlight Driver - Michigan: Erik Jones
As he’s done throughout his tenure with Richard Petty Motorsports / Petty GMS / LEGACY MOTOR CLUB, Erik Jones has continued to rise from the ashes of what has been a difficult season for the two-car organization.
Scoring a 10th-place finish at Michigan International Speedway, Jones has continued to put together a string of solid runs, as the No. 43 Chevrolet Camaro continues to find some speed in what has been a difficult season.
In the last seven races, dating back to Nashville Superspeedway in June, Jones has recorded five finishes inside the top-15, and six inside the top-20, which has helped him climb from 30th to 28th in NASCAR Cup Series point standings.
Mind you, without that 60-point penalty following the event at World Wide Technology Raceway, he would sit 23rd in NASCAR Cup Series point standings.
However, in a year where LEGACY MOTOR CLUB has struggled to find speed - with the No. 42 only finishing inside the top-20 on two occasions at Atlanta and COTA - this development of pace for Jones is a welcome addition to the tail-end of the year.
If Jones wants to make the post-season, though, he’ll have to score a victory, and with two road courses and a superspeedway left on the regular-season schedule, there’s no telling what could potentially lie ahead.
