#SrigleyStats Weekend Recap: Indianapolis
Taking a look back at this weekend's NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series, and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series events from Indianapolis and IRP.
This past weekend, Indianapolis Motor Speedway played host to the NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series - as well as the NTT IndyCar Series - for an exciting and unique triple-header weekend of road course racing.
Just down the street, though, Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park - the sister track to IMS - played host to both the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and the ARCA Menards Series, which also provided some interesting racing.
However, we didn’t get through the action-packed docket of racing at Indianapolis Motor Speedway without NASCAR’s weekly visit from Mother Nature, after a lightning delay held up proceedings in Saturday’s Xfinity Series event.

#SrigleyStats Spotlight Driver - Indianapolis - Alex Labbé
It’s been a different type of season for Alex Labbé in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. Prior to the season, Labbé, a native of St. Albert, Quebec, had exclusively competed for DGM Racing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.
This year, though, the former champion of the NASCAR Pinty’s Series has been passed around several organizations, including RSS Racing, SS Green Light Racing, DGM Racing, and Emerling-Gase Motorsports.
On Saturday, Labbé got behind the wheel of the No. 35 Toyota GR Supra for Emerling-Gase Motorsports, and brought it home to a finish of 11th, matching a season-high result for the series veteran.
The result, the second-best in the history of the NASCAR Xfinity Series, was a much-needed boost for Emerling-Gase Motorsports, which is in its second full season of competition in the second-tier series.
It also significantly raises the team’s standing in owner points, which gives the team a better chance of making future races with the No. 35.
Labbé, who has proven to be a master of the road courses in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, especially with the smaller teams, is set to return to the series at Watkins Glen International with SS Green Light Racing.
Finishing 10th in Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series event at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Shane van Gisbergen is the first driver since Terry Labonte in 1978 to score back-to-back top-10s to start a career in the NASCAR Cup Series.
In Sunday’s Verizon 200 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, a total of six international drivers took the green flag, tying a record from Watkins Glen in 2013 and Watkins Glen in 2022.
Jenson Button, Brodie Kostecki, Mike Rockenfeller, Kamui Kobayashi, Shane van Gisbergen, and Daniel Suarez were the six foreign-born drivers in the field for Sunday’s race.
