Josh Berry has already had quite the season - having been thrown into one of the fastest cars in the NASCAR Cup Series on short notice for Chase Elliott - and his season is just continuing to get more intriguing.
This weekend at Dover Motor Speedway, Berry was thrown into his second interim role this season, after Alex Bowman was involved in a sprint car accident at 34 Speedway on Tuesday, fracturing a vertebra.
With five NASCAR Cup Series events under his belt already this season, and a pretty good record in the NASCAR Xfinity Series at Dover, Berry was able to crank out a solid finish in Monday’s 400-lap event, finishing 10th in the No. 48 Ally Chevrolet.
For Berry, it’s his third top-10 finish of the season - after a P10 at Phoenix and a P2 at Richmond - and it continues a trend of top-10 finishes for the No. 48 team this season, in large part thanks to the influence of Blake Harris.
Heading to Kansas Speedway, Berry will have to attempt to get a hang of things on a 1.5-mile track, when it comes to the NextGen, if he is to continue a strong string of runs while filling in for various Hendrick Motorsports drivers.
And with the talk of the town being Berry heading to the NASCAR Cup Series on a full-time basis in 2024, these extra laps could end up being very crucial for Berry when it comes to his development.
It was an amazing weekend for the Truex family, with younger brother Ryan winning Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series event at Dover - his first NASCAR National Series victory - and Martin Truex, Jr. scoring the win on Monday to snap a long winless streak.
In doing so, Ryan and Martin became the sixth set of brothers to win in the same weekend in NASCAR’s National Series, while also becoming the first set of brothers to do so while driving for the same organization.
