While it wasn’t technically his NASCAR Xfinity Series debut - having made that earlier this season at Circuit of The Americas with SS Green Light Racing - Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series event at Darlington was the first for Carson Hocevar with Spire Motorsports.
…and things went swimmingly. After qualifying 25th, Hocevar slowly and methodically worked his way through the pack, climbing up as high as 12th or 13th, before a major accident broke out in turn three.
Despite some minor damage, the No. 77 Chevrolet Camaro was able to gain a spot inside the top-10, and held it pretty well, at times climbing inside the top five and running there on pace.
Hocevar has thrived at Darlington when running in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, finishing inside the top five in all three of his events at the 1.366-mile facility. He has a sixth-place finish in the NASCAR Xfinity Series to add to his resume.
It’s a promising sign for the Portage, Michigan native, who will get another five opportunities in the NASCAR Xfinity Series with Spire Motorsports, which has a solid technical alliance with JR Motorsports.
Who knows, at this rate, Hocevcar could be competing for a victory by the time this season finishes.
The winner of Friday’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event at Darlington Raceway was a throwback paint scheme to Hershel McGriff, who has had a racing career spanning several decades. However, two drivers in Friday’s field have raced against McGriff, Matt Crafton and Hailie Deegan.
