#SrigleyStats Weekend Recap: Atlanta Motor Speedway, Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course
Taking a look back at this weekend's events from Atlanta Motor Speedway and Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. #SrigleyStats Spotlight Driver: JJ Yeley
After a rain-soaked weekend in Chicago, Mother Nature decided to follow the NASCAR Cup Series to Atlanta Motor Speedway, where she again wreaked havoc on Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series Quaker State 400.
Although the weather was looming in the distance, that did increase the urgency during Sunday’s event, creating an amazing show for all of the fans that were at the 1.5-mile superspeedway.
Saturday’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course was also impacted by rain, but being on a road course, the drivers of the Truck Series took to the track anyways, which created a rain-filled, incident-filled gauntlet of a race.

While they aren’t necessarily contending for victories, it’s been a season of growth for Rick Ware Racing and JJ Yeley, putting together consistent results inside the top-20 and top-25 on raw speed alone.
However, in Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series Quaker State 400 at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Yeley, driving the No. 15 Ford Mustang, put together one of the best runs of his NASCAR career, finishing in seventh place.
For Yeley, the seventh-place result was his first finish inside the top-10 at NASCAR’s top level since the 2013 Daytona 500, more than a decade ago. It was also his third-best result in the NASCAR Cup Series, and his best in nearly 15 years.
Sure, Yeley and RWR haven’t necessarily been knocking on the door of a top-10 finish at all this season, with his best result prior to Sunday’s 400-mile contest being an 11th at Talladega Superspeedway after navigating through a last-lap crash.
But, if you were to add up the points that Yeley would have earned by competing in 13 of the first 19 NASCAR Cup Series events, he would only sit a single point behind LEGACY MOTOR CLUB driver Noah Gragson, and two points behind Spire Motorsports driver Ty Dillon.
So, while it’s clear that Yeley is likely overperforming his equipment, in terms of end-of-race results, it’s also become obvious that Rick Ware Racing as a whole has improved, likely a result of a new alliance with RFK Racing.
With his victory in Saturday’s NASCAR Xfinity Series event at Atlanta Motor Speedway, John Hunter Nemechek is the first driver to score a NASCAR National Series victory on the two most-recent configurations of the 1.5-mile facility.
