It’s been a difficult start to the season for Nick Sanchez and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series newcomers Rev Racing, after tough runs at Daytona and Las Vegas due to various incidents out of their control.
Mid-way through Saturday’s Fr8 208 things were looking like they’d be going a similar way after a restart stack-up caused significant damage to his No. 2 Gainbridge Chevrolet Silverado.
However, Sanchez and crew chief Danny Stockman, Jr. was able to rebound from what appeared to be a catastrophe and put themselves in a position to compete for his first victory in the NASCAR Truck Series, in the driver and team’s third start.
In a NASCAR Overtime restart, Sanchez was seeded as the third truck on the outside lane, when on the final lap of the race, the driver of the No. 2 darted to the inside of eventual winner Christian Eckes to take the lead.
However, Sanchez, being a newcomer to the NASCAR Truck Series, was unable to defend against the aggressive outside move from the McAnally-Hilgemann Racing driver, which left them side-by-side exiting turn four.
Grabbing the first top-five finish of his NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series career, amidst major adversity, and making an epic save off the final corner, is why Sanchez is the Srigley Stats Spotlight Driver for this weekend.
BELL CHANNELING CHAMPIONSHIP ENERGY?
In the opening five NASCAR Cup Series events of the 2023 season, Christopher Bell has picked up three top-five finishes - at Daytona, Las Vegas, and Atlanta, while his other three teammates from Joe Gibbs Racing haven’t collected a single one between them.
The last time the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 20 started the season with three top-five finishes in the first five races was 2002, when Stewart went on to win his first championship in the NASCAR Cup Series.
