#SrigleyStats Sheet: Chicago Street Course
NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series stats from the Chicago Street Course.
Last weekend in Chicago, Illinois, the first-ever street race for the NASCAR Cup Series, Shane Van Gisbergen made a visit from New Zealand and showed the drivers at NASCAR’s top-level how to run a street course.
In what was a history-making weekend - both from a racing and a rainfall perspective - the Trackhouse Racing driver found himself in victory lane at the end of his NASCAR Cup Series debut, something that hasn’t happened since 1963.
All-in-all, it was a fun weekend of racing, which provided an amazing show in Sunday’s Grant Park 220, even if there was some rain involved in the process, as well, making the inaugural Chicago Street Race a success.
CHICAGO STREET COURSE - CAREER-BEST FINISHES:
CUP: #91 - Shane Van Gisbergen - P1 (NCS Debut)
XFINITY: #36 - Alex Guenette - P15
XFINITY: #24 - Parker Chase - P16 (Tie)
XFINITY: #34 - Andre Castro - P37 (NXS Debut)
JUSTIN HALEY IMPRESSES ON STREETS OF CHICAGO
Since joining Kaulig Racing at NASCAR’s top level, Justin Haley has kind of gone under the radar. However, a strong strategy play in Sunday’s Grant Park 220 allowed him to remain at the front of the field in the race’s closing stages.
Finishing second, Haley picked up his best finish in the Cup Series outside of the superspeedways, and by leading 23 laps, eclipsed his race-high total for laps led in the series.
AM RACING HAS BANNER DAY THANKS TO BRETT MOFFITT
Finishing fourth in Saturday’s rain-shortened NASCAR Xfinity Series event at the Chicago Street Course, Brett Moffitt secured the first-ever top-five result for AM Racing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.
Additionally, Moffitt scored his first top-five finish in NASCAR’s second-tier series that didn’t happen on a superspeedway - his previous best result was P2 at Daytona.
